Statement

I chose to apply to MSA after visiting an open day to the University in October. The University appeared to stand high above any other that i had visited particularly because it seemed to offer a course that focused on the individual, giving you the opportunity to discover what you like and identify and establish what Architecture is for you. The facilities available also seem of a much higher standard than any other university i have visited. Although the campus is the largest in the UK, it had a welcoming, friendly and homely feel which is important when living away from home. I also love the city of Manchester itself and have visited Manchester several times with family and friends, most recently to the MEN Arena. I also recently visited London as i wanted to explore the diverse spectrum of Architecture that create the beautifully city. I have created several pieces of work based on this trip including photography pieces, experiments using several mediums, sketches and biro drawings; one of which i have included in my portfolio. I was completely inspired by the trip and would love the opportunity to travel across the world and visit more incredible architectural works; especially to both New Zealand and Italy as these countries have always fascinated me and some of my favourite works are situated in Florence and Rome. One of my favourite buildings is the Yellow Treehouse in New Zealand. I believe that a truly inspirational piece of architecture will surprise you time after time, and the Treehouse created by Peter Eising and Lucy Gauntlett achieves that. It is everything you dream of as a child and reminds me of my favourite childhood film, 'Where the Wild Things are'. It is these emotions that are triggered by beautiful architecture and that inspire me to pursue this career and study at The University of Manchester.
